HONG KONG, Aug 1 (Xinhua) — The company that owns the country’s biggest mobile handset conglomerate, Huawei Co., has agreed to pay a $10 million fine and pay a hefty $70 million fine to its customers for violating an anti-competitive spirit by the country’s top smartphone maker in the United States.

“We fully believe that Huawei has the right to impose its fair share of liability with respect to violations in this litigation,” the lawsuit said in a statement.

A subsidiary of Huawei said it suspended Huawei from its contract with Huawei in June because it violated the spirit governing China’s state-owned telephone company’s “competition law” by holding its phone business unprofitable, leading to complaints to the country’s high court, reports The Business Standard, citing documents released to the New York Times. The company said it had no liability for the phones as part of its deal with Huawei, but the lawsuit said that in other cases, Huawei’s products infringed as part of competition, as well as in China. Huawei is the fourth-largest smartphone maker in the world after Apple and Samsung, which have been ordered to pay more than $20 billion for the rights to more than half of the smartphone market during the past decade.
